This weekend was the annual India Club Festival at tamanawis which saw many falcons playing for both the respective club sides and also representing BC in the tournament. Playing for the bronze in the u21 age group against Ontario was the BC u18 team. Local representatives Brendan Guraliuk and Rowan Childs were a big part of the previous day’s win against the Canadian Red Devils, said Falcon Alumni and coach of the Bc team, John Sacre. Unfortunately after the huge effort the exerted against team Cabada the boys ran out of gas against Ontario and lost the game 3-1. The highlight of the day was the presentation of the FHC Graeme Carswell Fair Play Award given to the player who showed the same sportsmanship and fair play Graeme was known for. The presentation was made by Guy Manwaring representing Field Hockey Canada to falcons own Rowan Childs. A very deserving choice and one Graeme would have truly supported given that Graeme coached Rowan for several of his last few seasons with the club! Congratulations Rowan from all of us in the club!

After the recent tragic accident took the life of Graeme Carswell the Falcons Field Hockey Club along with the Carswell family, planned to create a legacy award that would honour his passing and continue in perpetuity. The “Follow your Dreams” award was created to give out annually to a boy or girl who best emulated graeme’s character and field hockey aspirations. The club announced that donations for the upcoming award would be accepted to build a legacy fund so that the Carswells could award it to one worthy player each season. This year the award went to falcons own Krista Jensen. A amazing athlete who has played multiple times for the BC team, coached kids within the club for over 5 years and mentored many young goalies to be inspired to play at a higher level. She received a cheque for 500$ from the Carswells and Falcons To put towards her future in field hockey in hopes she will realize her dreams. We look forward to seeing great things from Krista in the near future and other players who share the same characteristic as Graeme Carswell. To date the club has raised over 3000$ for the award and are still taking donations on the club website at www.falcons.ca.

Falcon Chix wins gold in the U15 girls Club Championships at UVic this weekend. With an amazing 5-0 record, the Falcon Chix defeated Vancouver Hawks 2-0, Victoria 2-0, Richmond 2-0, Burnaby 2-0 and Chilliwack 4-0. Outstanding effort by all. Many thanks to coach Ayla for her amazing bonding session, coach Emma for the amazing PC tips and strategies, the parents for not only cheering on our Chix but keeping all Chix well fed and hydrated and of course the athletes for leaving it all on the field. Great way to wrap up our season.
